The Future of the Blog

Right now, I'm pretty conflicted. When I started this blog, I started it as a journal of sorts, and to meet people out in the blogging community. I love being able to look back on my life and click on a date and see all the pictures and thoughts I had that day from anywhere. I love seeing the sweet comments from friends. I loved putting posts together on things that had just popped into my head and sharing those with the world, and seeing that sometimes I wasn't the only one. But most of all I started blogging because there have been moments when I was down and needed to hear something, and someone else would write something that really touched me and felt like it was for me, and I wanted to give that back. I wanted to be the one to touch others and let them know they're not the only ones. As it's been evident lately, I haven't been posting as often or putting as much effort into my little blog. Whenever I upload all my pictures and think of all the things I still...

Locked Out

A few weeks ago, I was dog sitting for my parents. (And fish sitting. And last minute hedgehog sitting.) The plan was, they'd leave in the morning, then I'd come over and pick up the dog. I didn't have room in my house for the hedgehog so I'd have to keep going over to feed it and the fish. I ended up having to work out of the blue that morning, so I rushed from work straight to my parents house to let the dog out to pee and get her things.  Miss Remi. She's cute. Remi still has issues with not peeing in the house and peeing when she first sees people, so when I got there I was focused on getting her outside as soon as I could. With a dancing dog at my heels, I threw the sliding door open and got her outside. I shut the door and waited for her to do her business. When she finally did, I went to open the sliding door. In my hurry to get outside, I hadn't fully moved the bar up. When I'd shut the door, the bar fell down, locking me out. My stomach sank....

The Copper Nickel

This semester I've been taking a class where I help work on our university's literary magazine, The Copper Nickel. It was started by Jake Adam York who I've talked about before  here . With his death, the magazine was put on hiatus until last year when it was started up again by Wayne Miller. My class is with him and it's been really cool. I've learned a lot about literary magazines. Before this semester, I had no idea what they were. As a writer though, they're important. They're where writers start out. They're where writers can experiment with new forms. It's where editors can find new writers and sometimes contact them on their own. Hemingway started in literary magazines, along with James Joyce. So, they're kind of awesome. The most current issue of Copper Nickel released in March For the class, we're going through the slush pile of submissions ourselves and deciding in groups what should be passed onto the next level to be looked a...

Life Lately

We've been pretty busy over here, with midterms and school and work and life. I love spring time though. Here's whats been going on lately.  Our car had a rough week, a flat tire one day and a cracked windshield the next. While I was sitting waiting for them to repair the tire, Sammy made dinner. Pizza Pasta. It was delicious, and since I was starving one of the best meals ever.   We had a huge Apple event at work for faculty and staff only. It was a fun day, a huge party all day.  Christopher was super huggy that day and wouldn't let Michael walk by without a huge hug.   He then bought a Macbook and paid in cash, so I had to take this picture. That was the most money I'd ever held. When I sent this picture to Sammy though, he wasn't impressed. That's what happens when you marry a banker I guess!  My mom sent me this. I was cutting my sisters hair with a headless gymnastics Barbie.  With our tax refund, we went shopping! Th...

9 Months

Today we've been married nine months. I really can't believe it. We're 3/4 of the way through our first year and the time is flying! So, here's some pictures from our wedding and my parents that look really similar, and it wasn't planned at all!

Tuesday Night

Sometimes there's those nights that I just want to remember. Not because of something huge, but the little things. Last week, I had one of those. I was feeling a little crazy and stressed. So I found it frustrating when I couldn't open my gatorade. So, it was the sexiest thing when Sammy was able to open it for me.  My visiting teacher came over for the first time and that was fun getting to know her. When she left I finally had time to eat dinner. In an attempt to be efficient, I ate straight out of the pan, in bed. When I walked in with my pan, Sammy said in a very quiet voice that something had happened. My mind immediately went to someone dying. I asked him what happened, and he repeated that something had happened. Derrick Rose had injured himself. I wanted to hit him, and I laughed. Mostly because I don't understood his families obsession with him. As long as I've been watching basketball, he's been injured. And last time I checked, people can't pla...

Sisters

It's been weird having my sister a few hours away. I'm so used to her being right here. And I miss her. I remember there was this one night two years ago, when she was having a hard time herself. That was the summer of panic attacks for me. It was the middle of the night and I was having another one. I crawled into her bed and she rubbed my back and played with my hair for a little bit, even though she was probably exhausted herself. That meant so much to me.  Looking back at the months leading up to the wedding, I look back and smile at how much she helped me with everything, even though she probably didn't want to. I can't wait to help her with her wedding one day. I can't wait to see her become a nurse or wherever she ends up, she'll be great at it. It's so fun to watch her with animals, she's so good with them.  I love you Brinley!
