Cuddles

When we were in the hospital, I joked with my mom and sister that when I pictured motherhood, I pictured it going a lot differently. I thought that I'd spend the day watching Harry Potter with Aaron, then I'd write while he took a nap, then I'd have the time and energy to make a delicious, nutritious meal every night while he sat in his bouncer and watched me.  Haha. I was so naive.  The day after the hospital, Aaron was extremely cuddly with me. He did not want me to put him down or walk out of eye sight. One of the saddest moments of the day was when I put him in his rock and play and walked to grab something. I watched him turn his head and his eyes follow me. As soon as I was out of eyesight, he started screaming. I  completely changed my plans for the day at that moment. I didn't worry about cleaning up or making dinner.  We went for a walk and I left the shade down so he could see me.  I turned on Harry Potter and snuggled with my boy in h...

An Unexpected Hosptial Stay

When Aaron was born, I prayed that I would be able to have and recognize promptings in order to best take care of him. I'd heard all these stories about a 'mom gut' and was worried that I wouldn't have one, especially since I'm such an anxious person. I'm about as good at making decisions as Chidi is on the Good Place when I'm feeling anxious and I was so worried that when it came to Aaron I wouldn't be able to make decisions and know what was best for him.  One Tuesday after I was starting to feel like I was a little more on my feet with this mom thing, I decided that I really wanted to work on getting Aaron sleeping well in his bed. During the day the only time he would sleep was if he was being held and I can only hold him for so long. That morning when leaving for work Sammy remarked that Aaron sounded congested and suggested I call the doctor about that. He'd been sounding a little mucus-y for a week at that point though, and when I conside...

They See Me Rollin'

On November 21st, Aaron rolled over for the first time. I was getting ready for the morning and he was a bit fussy, so I laid him down on the floor so he could get a little bit of tummy time. As I got dressed I looked over just in time to see him like this.  He stayed like that for a good thirty seconds, then flopped onto his back.  I immediately called Sammy to let him know, and he did it again! I was so stinking proud of Aaron and so glad that I got to see the moment. I tried multiple times over the following days to get him to do it again while family was watching, but he hasn't done it since then.

Halloween 2018

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays and we were so excited to celebrate it with Aaron. I started googling costume ideas months ago, trying to come up with a family costume idea for us. I kept saying that I needed to make it before Aaron was born because I wouldn't care afterwards. I thought we'd all do Harry Potter, but at the last moment decided Stranger Things would be a lot easier and I'd just dress Aaron up as a box of Eggos.  I also found this adorable onesie with pumpkin feet. I had earrings to match so I got dressed up to match him. This is Aaron's favorite blowout outfit by the way; whenever he wears it he has one.  We debated for weeks whether or not we should attend the church trunk or treat and chili cook off. We love to go and needed somewhere to wear our costumes to, but at the same time we wanted to do what was best for Aaron. It was suggested that he stay away from large crowds and we knew everyone would want to hold him, so we decided no...

Aaron's First Few Weeks

This might not be a newsflash to anyone else, but it was to me; having a newborn is a lot of work. I knew that they slept a lot so I thought that I'd be able to get so much done while he was asleep. HA! Time has been warped for me ever since I went into labor and hasn't slowed down since then.  Because of that, I don't remember everything from Aaron's first few weeks. But he's adorable :) SLEEPING I remember being nervous to go to bed that night, unsure of what to expect with just Sammy and I and no nurses on call to come help us. Aaron's doctor suggested that we put a binder in his pack and play so that he was at an incline, since he was super pukey and coughed a lot. However when I put him to bed that night, he just wiggled all over the bed and got himself so that his feet were on the incline and his head was upside down. So that didn't work.  That first night with him sleeping so close to me I was shocked at just how many noises he made in t...
