Happy Halloween!

I wasn't sure if college students dress up for halloween for not, so I decided to go simplistic with the costume this year. Plus, I'm still kind of obsessed with Divergent and I love to be characters from books. So I was Tris. I've already got the long blonde hair, I just wore a lot of black, some eyeliner, and Sammy drew on her bird tattoos. I was so impressed with his job, I didn't know that boy could draw! I felt pretty awesome not going to lie. It was fun seeing all the creative costumes on campus today as well. I hope everyone had a safe and fun Halloween

BATMAN and hotdogs.

Batman came into the bookstore yesterday. I asked if I could take his picture, and he promptly did this. Then started reading his instruction manual. Then he left. And my coworkers and I had a discussion on how we should have addressed him, as Bruce, Adam West, or his royal darkness. Just kidding, I made the last one up. Then, we were googling all the old Batmans, and somehow that ended up with us googling cool ways to serve hotdogs. There are blogs dedicated to the subject my friends.

Commuter Campus

I go to a commuter campus and I love it. It's something I didn't really understand before I was actually here, the concept of it. I actually thought I was going to hate living and going to school in the city, but I love it. Why? There's no homecoming. I love my school don't get me wrong, but I would rather represent it with getting a novel done that I'm proud of and published, not spending time watching people I don't know battle it out. There's none of those events and I don't know enough people on campus for it to be weird I don't go. Everyone else is busy. It's not expected for us all to hang out all the time. Almost everyone lives somewhere else and has other places to be. No feeling bad about not hanging out on campus. There are soooo many different people. The friends I have made are from every background and culture imaginable! It's so cool learning from them and all about the state. I get to ride the bus to school and get in a...

One of my favorite days : )

It's sir Sammy's birthday :) Totally one of the best days ever. Besides the day our Savior was born. And my parents. And his parents. And my siblings. And our soon to be wedding day. Anyways. It's a great day. It's the day my best friend joined me in the world! I'm so happy, this year I finally got to spend the whole day with him. He picked me up for school, we rode the bus together, had dinner, and watched the basketball game. I'm so thankful for this day and for this boy! May he have a million more awesome birthdays!

I'mma just keep crying

This is me today. And yesterday. Yesterday, I didn't sleep at all. I got up early and headed right to the bookstore before school to pick up Allegiant. And then, being my normal self, I read the last page in the checkout line. And then preceded to cry. And cry. And cry. I called Sammy crying, but he was busy getting his flu shot. So, I just cried some more. Then I read the book from start to finish, and just kept on crying. It was not any better knowing the context that came with. The only thing that makes me feel better is the ENTIRE internet is mad at the author as well. We're all upset. This didn't have to happen this way, it has a feeling of fakeness and like she just wanted controversy. I'm holding out hope that if enough of us get upset, that the movie company will change the ending. Because this is not ok. So if I seem sad today, you know why. I think I'mma go cry some more.

Racism, stereotypes, and plain ole judging

Being in a class dedicated to the idea of migration has really kept the idea of racism on the brain. In elementary school, the idea of racism was so defined to me, thinking people are better than others based solely on the color of their skin. It wasn't until middle school after reading many books that I realized racism wasn't jut as issue of black versus white, rather it applies to all cultures. In high school I was actually shocked to here racist statements from people I loved. All the sudden this issue became personal somewhat. (My favorite statement was from a little girl who said, it should be illegal for Mexicans to have babies. I guess I can't have kids then.)  But it wasn't until last week when we did an activity in my public health class that I realized that I myself was being racist as well. Now, this is something I am not proud of. I'm very embarrassed actually and that activity was humbling. Why am I writing about this? Because, it's som...

Sneak Peek for my blogging friends : )

So, Sammy and I had a mini photo-shoot today with my mom. We haven't taken any photos of the two of us since we got engaged. It was so much fun : ) Now, I have a little surprise for all you blogger friends. I put some of the pictures up on my facebook, BUT I purposely left a bunch out because, well, they have a little extra detail in them that we're not announcing to the world yet. But, because all of you let me take peeks into your lives and leave such sweet messages for me, I wanted to share these with you first : )

This week

The week we met with the photographer. He's super nice and exactly what we were looking for.  Booked the church Discovered Qudoba nachos are SOO good.  Accidentally ate my moms lunch.  Read The Bride Wore Size Twelve and remembered how much I love Meg Cabot.  Had some girl time. We colored and listened to music and just talked and talked. I decided Prince Philip needed some nikes.  Read Medea. Oh my.  My grandparents came to town. My brother was ordained a teacher.  We went to the dress store. And then ordered my dress. I'm so so excited. Speaking of hitch, stay tuned, I have a little surprise for you bloggers :)  My mom and the dog howled together.  The dog helped me color bricks.

Joseph Gordon Levitt is no longer hot

I no longer find Jo Go Le attractive. Someone sent me a buzzfeed with him holding a kitten. A while ago I would have drooled. But I looked at it, and then said meh. Then I saw his trailer for his new movie, Don Jon. And I said, eww.  And then finally I read an article about him. Where he confessed to doing drugs and other such things. Gross.  You know that thing, how people's personalities mean more than their looks? Yeah. Well I already knew that was true. I jut never thought that that would happen with Jo Go Le. Even writing about him is no fun. I think getting engaged has a lot to do with it as well. I don't need no Jo Go Le holding a kitten, I have an awesome fiancé who runs with my crazy dog and gives her hugs.

I'm still a tattletale.

I'm going to admit it. I was a tattle tale growing up. It's a very hard thing to grow out of. Then again, now that I think about it, I was just being honest. But just like in elementary school, that honesty wasn't really appreciated. Like the other day when someone was returning headphones because they were a little scratchy. A coworker decided that he would just switch him some new headphones. I was like, whoa whoa whoa. Whoa. This doesn't sound right. And then he wanted me to sign off on the return. Little lights kept going off. I kept glancing around, looking for my boss but of course, he'd decided to disappear. The customer was getting antsy, my coworker had already started the return. I started to sign the paper, my coworker had to know what he was doing right? And then dun dun dun DUUN! My boss came up the stairs. I called him over. The customer uttered the f word. Instantly I felt like I was back in elementary, telling on someone for something. But now th...

Just Like Us

On Friday I was able to go out to a play with my Migration, Modernity, and Literacy class. I freaking love this class. The professor is so cool. He's actually created an environment where I feel comfortable speaking, which isn't often ha. We've been discussing what it means to be human, to have rights, and societal pressures. And immigration. I've really been interested by immigration and what it's like to be an immigrant, especially since Sammy's mom immigrated here, along with other relatives of his and all his awesome neighbors that are like family to me now. So, when the opportunity to go to a play about these very issues came up, I jumped for it. I'm so glad that I went. The play is based on Helen Thorpe's book of the same name. Helen Thorpe just so happens to be the wife of John Hickenlooper. Yeah, go Colorado! Anyways. So, Helen followed around four Latina girls for five years to see what it was like for them transitioning from high school to co...

I'm in love

Poor Sammy. He's had to deal with us two this last week. . . I'm in love. Actually, I'm kind of obsessed and it's pretty pathetic. I haven't felt this way about a book in a LONG time. (Like, the first time I read twilight as a 14 year old.) Alas, Divergent and I have a pretty funny love story. Just like with Sammy, it was slow starting.  My brother read the book. My sister read the book. I heard other people talking about how they liked the book. And little ole me was like, yo, I can't read that book now, so many people love it. That's a lot of pressure. Plus, I don't want to be that lame person who comes in late to the game once something gets really cool. Also, I'm ashamed to admit this, but I judge books by their covers. And the cover of Divergent looked a little kiddish to me. Another also, I'd just read the second book in the Delirium series, and really didn't like it. To me, the second book felt unnatural and like the author ju...

This week

I read the best. Book. Ever. Like, I've already re read it twice. It's a problem. It's getting its own post Went on a scholarly night on the town. Went to a play with my honors class, talked to people I've never talked to before, and briefly got to see my old roommates. Don't worry, the plays getting its own post as well. Wrote nine pages of my novel.  Slept, I mean watched conference. (I prefer to read the talks and not have spiritual overload.) Went to institute with Sammy and my sister! It was great, Sammy was eating it up, I felt so so so proud when he answered a question. Apparently, Sammy likes the deep allegories that everyone else struggles with.  Scared my boss by jumping out of some boxes. It was epic.  Discovered strawberries don't taste nice microwaved. Stayed up till midnight working out and dusting because I had so much energy from sleeping through conference. I was going to play wii fit as well, but the remote needed ba...
