Real food/black friday/i was a big girl

Oh, may I testify to the world how true this is. If only I'd known what this week was going to mean to me last year. I'm so grateful that I got to spend it with my family, and, that there was real food. The end of the week is here and I'm really sad. I had a great week with family and getting a break. But now it's over and I have to get back into energizer bunny mode, which is a bit overwhelming. NO! There's about two weeks of school left, and one week of finals and then I'll be done for a whole month! Just getting through these last few weeks seems a little daunting though. Oh well, I'll get through it just like I always do. Hopefully I don't end up puking my first day of break like I did last year though. Good times. My mom and I completely rocked black friday. Let's just say that this girl, named Kylee, who previously had three dvds to her name was able to create her own library of ALL her favorites. And most of them were only $3.99. I'...

Saturday of the Samurai

I need to catch up on a few stories. Last Saturday I was woken up with a frantic phone call from Sammy. He wanted to know where I was. Since it was 8:30 on a Saturday, I was in bed. He then informed me that a man with a sword had been running around campus, attacked a police officer, and the officer had shot him. The man died. Well, I had work that morning, so with this news, I hurriedly got ready. As I walked to work, I saw flashing lights everywhere. Turns out, the attack had happened a few feet away from the Tivoli (the building I work in.) There were policemen everywhere, crime scene tape up, and photographs being taken of every angle. I stood on my tippy toes, hoping to see anything, but I didn't. Our loss prevention department works very closely with the police department. So, the girl on duty that day filled us in on the rest of the details. The man was homeless, and it had been a samurai sword. He had died here, and the cop had almost lost a finger. I'm very curious...

HISTORY IN THE MAKING!

It's election day! And I actually got to vote this time! Which makes watching the coverage of the votes really exciting! I was a part of this! Plus I'm watching it in my friends room, and they're already decorated for Christmas so it feels like a holiday! This here, is history in the making, and I get to be a part of it.

Hey Brodo

Note to self: Halloween party in college = watching Lord of the Rings. I can dig that. :) Best Sammy quote of the day- "Well, I'm the boyfriend so there's no times I've been right and you've been wrong. Make sure to put that on your blog." HAHA! Found out I have to write a 12 page paper for my honors class. At least the topics cool, we have to describe a society in which everyone is self actualizing with evidence from three books. Guess who's referencing Brave New World?! That would be me. That book has really stuck with me, because the ending made me so angry. You can read about that here . But I can truly say it's one of my favorites and has made me think the most and relate it to everyday life. I keep looking at the Tattered Cover to see if they'll get a cheap copy in, because it's definitely one I want to keep on my bookshelf. I actually got a compliment on my combination of striped cardigan and polka dot pajamas, and it was sincere. ...

Oh Frodo

I remember the first time I watched the Lord of the Rings. It was Spring Break 2010. We did a movie a night, three nights in a row, my dad, sister, mom and me. It was the best Spring Break ever and I'll always remember it! Now, at my house, when you watch Lord of the Rings, we fast forward through all the Frodo parts in the second and third movie. It's a pretty long movie and he's just walking or overcoming his inner evils. I can't count the number of books and movies I've seen with the exact same themes. There's just something about walking a wilderness that makes for a good way to show change. So, for sanity's and our bladders sake, we fast forward through those parts. And I like it like that. This one time, Sammy was over, and he wanted to watch Lord of the Rings. I put the movie in, fixed the sound and everything, then reached straight for the remote and proceeded to watch the movie properly. Sammy was not ok with this, because he is Frodo and Sam'...

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! Last year on Halloween I had a cold. This year I woke up incredibly dizzy. But it was still a good day. Since I was so dizzy there was no way I was going to be able to go to work and look up down up down up down because every time I move my head the world goes wooooo! Not fun. So I called in sick and tried to sleep it off. That helped a little bit. Sweet Sammy spent part of the afternoon with me since I wasn't feeling good. He did the same thing last Halloween when I was sick. He's good to me. I got a whole lot done on my novel, and I found out for my final in narrative I need to write a short story and then analyze it. Short stories aren't really my thing but I have a whole lot of ideas for this one and I'm excited. I have my rough draft almost finished! Hopefully things don't go down hill towards the end. For dinner we decided to get dressed up in our Halloween costumes. I didn't feel like buying a costume, so I was going to be a cat. But ...
So many things going through my mind today. I wish I was out in Utah with my family right now. I miss them a lot and wish that I was able to be there to pay respects to my great grandma. I'm glad that I got to know her, not many people I know get to even meet their great grandparents. It's so weird, I was just talking to her at my uncle's funeral last month and she seemed right as ever. She made me laugh so hard. She was saying how she just doesn't understand the boys with the long hair, or the girls with hair in their eyes. "I made sure to make sure you didn't have hair in your eyes before I said that." Hahaha, thanks grandma. She was a fiesty lady. This Frankenstorm is really freaking me out, and I'm nowhere near the east coast. I'm praying for all of you over there. I'm thankful for prophets who know what's coming and say things to get us prepared. Gordon B. Hinkley warning everyone to get out of debt years before the recession? 72 ...

Oh Boy

About a month ago I wrote  this . Just wanted to give an update, I now know they are all from the same species, and that first impressions are rarely right. It also surprises me how accepting people are. I say hey, I'm not doing this, and that's it. No other questions asked. Isn't going to be used against me at a later time. The one interesting thing is that it usually takes over an hour to eat dinner every night, because the guys all get about three different plates of food, dessert, and then make abstract art with the napkins. Pretty sure all my digesting gets done before I even think about leaving the table at night. Remember back in middle school, when it was funny to pour everything at the table into a drink and look at how disgusting it was? Well that's what happened at dinner tonight. It was a mixture of kool aid, coke, ice cream, beef stroganoff, mushrooms, and a healthy dose of salt and pepper. One of the guys was triple dog dared to drink it, and chickened o...

Bike Riding for the Bike Ridingly Challenged

I would consider my self bike ridingly challenged. Yes, I know how to keep a bike upright. I know how to shift gears and fill the tires up with air. But I wouldn't say I'm a great biker. At least in the sense, that I don't feel comfortable riding my bike on the road. I stick to the sidewalks as much as possible. And that's kind of difficult when riding around a campus that has three schools, not just one. I didn't even bring my bike down until the second week here because I was nervous about getting around all the people walking chaotically. But having my bike here has made everything a much better experience. So, I decided to write a guide to bike riding for the bike ridingly challenged like myself. Please note I have no ideas of biker rules and such, so if I'm breaking some big code, you should let me know! 1. Hipsters wear helmets. 2. Smart people wear helmets. 3. Nowadays, people can't walk ten feet without the soundtrack of their life playing, aka...

They See You When You're Sleeping

You know that awkward phase, before you go to sleep and you're only half asleep? And you can hear everything? Well, I was taking a nap after my UHL classes today because they always make my head hurt afterwards, when my roommate came in with all our guy friends. They all came into our room and there I was. They were all laughing quietly because I sleep on my stomach so it looks like I can't breathe. Been doing it my whole life people, and I'm still alive :) Anyways. They decided it would be funny to take pictures with me. Not knowing what to do I just continued to lay there. Then I head I'mma get a creeper shot with her. So I waited a few seconds until I knew Austin was next to me and bam! I punched him and he jumped so high and screamed. Yep, I won that round. I'm glad I pretended to wake up because we went to dinner afterwards and it was delicious. Spaghetti, garlic mashed potatoes, and broccoli were meant to be eaten together.  It's been a pretty grea...

Dear Blog

Dear Blog, Sometimes, things happen that have to stay between my diary and me. Or is it a journal? How do you know which is which? I don't write Dear Diary before everything, but I feel like diary is a cuter word than journal. But great things are coming. Maybe you will get the privilege of knowing sometime soon as well. Somethings I can tell you are, I'm weird. Every night before bed, even if I've gone pee five minutes before, I have to go again seconds before I actually get in bed. If I don't I just lay there and feel like a big bag of urine. Haha! Thankfully my roommate doesn't say anything about my weird trait.  Yesterday I cleaned the entire dorm. And for some reason it made me really happy. Future children, please take note, this will probably never happen again.  They had scones today for lunch. I was so happy because I love scones.  I am a homebody. I love being at home. Whether that be my dorm or my home, I like being there. It's har...
Here's the band that stunk, but we got a picture with anyways. Then our lives were made complete when we met the lead singer from Imagine Dragons And here's the x's on the back of our hands.

Birthday Week!

Sorry I've been gone. It's been a pretty awesome week filled with awesomeness. It was also muchly needed. I feel so much more reenergized and ready to tackle school/life again. Seeing all the people and friends who love me and care was amazing, especially all the friends I've made in the last month. I'm not even physically here all the time, yet they all care about me so much and were willing to give up a night of homework to watch my favorite movie with me, even when that movie is We Bought A Zoo. It still surprises me how different the people here are. I was expecting me to be the only one who enjoyed the movie, and everyone else to tease me about it. But they all got into the movie as well and we were all almost crying when Matt Damon cries. See, since he's also Jason Bourne, its a very big deal when that man sheds tears. When Matt Damon cries, everybody cries. The bestby spent the whole day with me which was amazing. He got to have a taste of dorm life, and se...

I Can't Wait to be Odd Again!

Tomorrow's my birthday. I'm pretty excited because I'll get to be an odd number again! I much rather prefer being an odd number than an even. Man, 18 you were jam packed with tons of crazy things. A ton. Now I get to start all over, and hopefully cram even more awesome experiences into a year. I'm dreading being 20 by the way. Eww. It just sounds gross. Today was a pretty funny day. I just discovered moments ago that I totally left my pajamas and underwear on the bathroom floor next to my lotion and deoderant. They were all standing up quite nicely. I have no idea how I got so distracted this morning that I left them there. Joice said she thought I'd been kidnapped until she saw the bottles standing up so nicely. I absolutely love this jacket. Best. Purchase. Ever. Rocking the floral! I may or may not have given this boy the best pep talk in the history of pep talks. These are some of the quotes that came out of this talk. Feel free to quote me later. ...

Last Friday Night.

Ok, go one Friday forward from last friday night, and you'll have today. Which was a great day! Thank goodness! I had UHL all day. It's getting better. Sort of. Some things my professor said made me question what I'm doing here again. I want to write. That's what I've always wanted to do. That's where my passion is. We discussed a lot about how everyone feels such a push to go to college, but only about 30% of the people who go actually end up getting a degree. A few decades ago, that was a much different story. Now, a bachelor's degree is worth basically nothing. Everyone gets those, even if they don't actually need it for their job. So why get into tons of debt if you already know your passion and can learn it another way. That's what we discussed today. I'm not going to go drop out tomorrow or anything, just something to think about. The worst part of UHL today was the fact that our guest speaker wasn't able to finish her presentation ...
Hey! It's almost been three weeks! Woo! I'm getting the hang of this! The homework is starting to pick up though, but luckily my work hours are going down so I'm getting the hang of it. I love all my new college friends! They're so fun :) I miss Kelsey though and can't wait to see her at the Imagine Dragons concert! I also miss some of my high school teachers, but there's no way I would ever want to go back to high school. Eww! College rocks! I love the city animals :) The pigeons are so cute! I still get to see my bestby most days, which is always fun!  Today we've been dating for 20 months! So exciting :) I won't bore you with how much I love this guy though ;)  It's weird going back and forth from the city and then home. I have two homes now, which is interesting to say the least. I love being able to just sit around the city somewhere and think. I love my family sooo much! Now we make the most of the time we spend together, which...

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday.

You know those days, when you're at church and its like everything they say is meant for you? Today I got to watch the bestby have one of those. It was a cool experience. I got my first calling in the branch today. Wasn't too excited about it honestly. Put me in a stressed mood. It's on the fellowshipping committee. I don't really know how this is all going to work out, especially since I only live in the branch boundaries half of Saturday and Sunday. But I know I'm supposed to have this calling and it'll work out. And the sooner I get over my negative attitude about it, the sooner they'll release me. ;) Britton and the bestby watched me get set apart. My two best friends! And yes, yes you can have more than one at a time. That annoying moment when you realize that you still have a grudge against someone and you kinda sorta need to get over yourself and forgive. Again. Patience. When will I ever learn you? When? Is asking you when I will learn you im...

. . .

. . . . Sometimes I wonder if the guys on my floor are from the same species as the bestby. I'm currently hiding out in my room because there is a poster of a lady in a bikini on one of the guys doors, and the door is always open, and I've told them how disgusting that is but they just ignore me when I speak of the lady poster, so I thought I'd take matters into my own hands and duct tape some clothing onto the poor objectified woman. Not the best idea ever. They weren't too happy about my ideas of modesty. I took the duct tape off for them and didn't even rip the stupid poster. Hey, when they have daughters of their own someday, they'll get it and they'll remember me and my orange duct tape. And the other reasons I say this, that I wonder if the bestby and these guys are from the same species, are to horrifying to be put on this blog. Shudders. In other news, I named my bike Susan. I jokingly call her a slut. Because every time I park her, when I come b...

I'm too tired to come up with a cool name for this.

Well. I made it through my first week. And two more days. Wahoo! Not going to lie they were pretty rough. Now I'm feeling a whole lot better though. Works slowing down so that makes everything better. I actually got home before the sun went down, two days in a row! And I got to see my mom and the bestby today :) Always great. I'm actually caught up on my homework which is a surprise. It's nice being able to have a fresh start in a new place. Easier to change the bad habits I've accumulated over the years. Like procrastinating homework and watching too much tv and not washing my dishes right after I eat and keeping my room clean. Yeah. Those. An update on the bug situation. An exterminator came and did a heat treatment. So basically they took everything out of the drawers and turned the heat to a hundred and left it like that for seven hours. When I came back from church, all my roommates were sitting in the hall, with our dorm room open, AC blasting, windows open, and...

DROPPED

Guess who just dropped her religion class? This girl! I'm taking an english class about how everything in our lives is a story. It's right after my normal english class. Hopefully not too much english on those days. But it's got to be better than dealing with that other guy. And taking a class I don't need for my degree.
