Sneaky Vegetables

Today it hit me! I have come up with a theory on how to get your veggies in! Because let's face it, even though I'm a grown up, if I have the choice between some cake or digging out some carrots, cutting them up, washing them, I'm going to go with the cake. But first a story. At my elementary school, the lunch ladies were mean. Which, I totally get. I'd be pretty grumpy to if I spent all day watching kids nastily eat their lunches. I still have nightmares about Gerald, and how he was eating some kind of cheese sandwich and then took a drink out of his water bottle, the kind with the tops that you could chew on, and he left half eaten nasty cheese sandwich all over the kid of his water bottle. Anyways. Everyone's least favorite lunch lady though was Norma. Norma's skin had sun damage and wrinkles like I'd never seen before. She'd been a heavy smoker so she would walk up and down the lines of...

Last Name

I'm starting to feel a little sad about changing my last name. Don't get me wrong, I am so beyond excited to get married! Like oh man it can't come fast enough! And I'm very excited to be Mrs. Gomez. I've spent countless hours perfecting my new signature, mostly in physics back in high school ha!  But, this had been my last name for so long. This is the name people find me by. I love being at the end of the alphabet. I love the cute voices of the primary kids calling me Sister Wiechman! My last name is so unique and ties me to my family and my crazy ancestors. I'm going from such an easily recognizable name to one that is much more common. I know sooo many people who have the last name Gomez. And, the last name Gomez has always made me think of hamsters. Yes, hamsters. That would be this ladies fault.                                        I always associate the name Gomez with this....

What Makes a Good Romance

I've noticed after reading a whole lot of young adult, and watching movies, and reading blogs, and creating stories myself that there are a few things that always appear in (what I consider at least) a good love story. So, without further ado, here are the elements that I think are necessary for a good romance and what I always make sure to include. 1. People who shouldn't be in love falling in love - This element is usually labeled as forbidden love but I think that's a bit cliche and overreaching. For a story to be compelling, two people don't need to have forbidden love Romeo and Juliet style, but there needs to be some element that is keeping the characters from being together. This adds tension which is necessary for any story. I'm pretty hard core while he's a goody two shoes, which causes tension. Ha! ;) For example: Different social classes : seen in most Disney Princess movies, Pride and Prejudice Different cultures : Othello, Perfect Che...

Grateful : )

I decided to take Uchdorfs talk about being grateful to heart this week. On Monday night, I was feeling a little discouraged and wanted Tuesday to be a better day. I started off the morning with a bunny on the lawn! And it didn't just run away like they usually would. It just sat there as I got out and got into the car. I sent the picture to Sammy saying my bunny. He sent me this in reply.  It was his bank bunny! What were the odds that we both had bunnies sitting out at the same time on the same day? That made me really happy : )  Then I got to take a mini nap on Sammy's lap. I always get these buttons on my face. I was happy all day and tried to keep that attitude all week. It was a great week! Even when stressful things happened I was still happy and I remembered to be grateful in my circumstances. This is something I really want to work on doing more often! Uchdorf always has the best advice!

Forgiveness

Forgiveness. There's some people I need to forgive, otherwise my marriage is going to be a bit tough. Sammy's parents/ my future in laws. They are wonderful people! But, I've really struggled with loving them over the past year. When Sammy told his parents he wanted to get baptized, afterwards one of the hardest times in our relationship and identity followed. I would get dizzy just thinking about them and everything they had said. It was bad. I would sit at home at night and just hate them. I hated everything about them. I hated the way they treated Sammy. I hated the way they thought, the way they talked. I thought badly on how they spent their money, their time, their rules. Whenever they would text or call Sammy when I was with him, I prepared myself for the worst and would speak ill of them. I immediately get tense if either of them text or call me, and have ignored his moms calls several times. Yesterday, there was a situation which I shall write about later...

Embarrassed

I am so embarrassed right now, I am dreading going to my classes. Oh goodness. . . So, in my fiction class we were having a contest. We all had to write a story about a 'boring topic' from a list. We had to listen to a podcast that showed how it was done. The podcast was an hour long. I listened to the first ten minutes of it, supposing I had the gist of the assignment. The story that I heard on the podcast was about a woman's period experience and it was disgusting, but I felt so bad for her! So, I understood the assignment as to write a disgusting story in detail, yet make someone feel sorry for you. I remembered reading something on the assignment page about disgusting details, so I felt golden. I put my all into this story, and it was pretty gross but I felt like I had toned it down quite a bit from the original. So, I went to class hoping to win the contest! We threw all our stories in a bag and our teacher read them one by one and we were to vote. As I listened, m...

Catch Up

On Friday, I got to hang out with Britton! It was so exciting since she's living in Idaho right now. We went and visited Britton's work first which was funny. All her co workers were teasing her relentlessly. Then we headed over to the mall for some Which Wich. That is my all time favorite sandwich place ever so I was super excited! It was beautiful outside so we got to eat out in the sun as well. Then, we headed over to Victoria's Secret because I had a coupon! Coupons are leegit, and I've never been there with Britton so that was lots of fun! Then we hit up Bath and Body Works. That store is our weakness. Every time we've gone their over the years, I've always left with new lotions. This time, I left with lotion AND candles. It was so fun losing our sense of smell!  Last we went to Charming Charlies. So many pretty things to touch! Britton helped me pick out a pretty hair pin for the wedding, maybe, and explained those hair bow things to me haha! I...

Wedding Updates & Guest Posts

I know this is probably a bit early, but, I need guest bloggers for the week of my wedding! I've really gotten into a blogging groove the last month and want to keep it going even when I'm gone. Whenever my favorite bloggers go on vacation, I get a little sad in the morning not having anything to read. Which is why, I'd like some guest bloggers! The posts would be going up the week of June 7th until I come back from my honeymoon! So, ideally, I'd like about 7 posts but if I get more that's great! Email me or comment if you'd be interested! : ) : ) : ) Speaking of flowers… I've been making flowers for the wedding like crazy the last few days! The goal is to have enough so that guests could take one home but I don't know if that's going to happen.  We got our cake! It's super cute and super yummy! We're having one of those cute little cakes and then the rest as cupcakes. Wedding hair. I don't know how to do my hair ever, so I h...

Garden- Week 2

The garden has moved outside now and the dog is trying her darndest to eat it. Some plants are clearly not growing while others are doing alright. They all look pretty flimsy to me because we haven't gotten them the secret plant steroids in all the plants at the supermarket. Haha!  I really want them to live! Come on little plants, adapt and grow!

OverRated

I can't stand R movies. I grew up being taught I should avoid them. But my rebel self had to try them out. Worst. Things. Ever. All of them gave me nightmares or made me want to cry, including the comedies. I swore I'd stop watching them. Then I came to college. For one class, all the required movies were rated R. I wasn't doing so good in the class so I decided to just suck it up and watch some. They made me feel sick and honestly it wasn't worth the grade. Those nasty things are stuck in my head. So, I swore that I'd never watch another R movie for school again. Welp, in my social psych class we watched a movie that related to what we were learning. It was called One Flew Over the Cookoos Nest. Something like that. I'd never heard of it before, and didn't even think that it was R. I'm used to having permission slips for that, the real world is crazy. It was interesting at first I guess. But then again, it wasn't. The language was crazy. And the...

Tris has zits

So, I'm obsessed with Divergent. I talk about it all the time. Last week I saw it with my brother for the second time and I still absolutely loved the movie. But, this time since I knew what was happening, I had time to look at all the backgrounds and little details. (How cute is it when Four says, hey I've already got my spot on the floor. Didn't hear that the first time.) And with the few close ups, that when I saw it. Tris has zits. Well, more like Shailene Woodley actually. I remember my first zit. It was the end of fifth grade. I didn't want to go to school because I didn't want my crush at the time Eric Gonzalez to remember my huge rudolf nose zit. Seriously. That thing didn't go away for a good year. My 5 year old brother took this picture. This is the only one I could find with the rudolf nose zit you have to zoom in though haha! Anyways. I've always had acne. Not super super bad, but enough to be noticed and annoying. My parents still ...

Climate Change

I often avoid political topics on my blog, but this is something I want to write about simply because I believe it doesn't need to be political. I posted this on Facebook the other day. Yesterday I watched Years of Living Dangerously. I have so many thoughts and feelings right now. But my favorite part was when Don Cheadle talked with Katharine Hayhoe, a leading climate scientist AND Evangelical Christian. She talked about how climate change and religion don't have to be separate, in fact they are very related. Her husband, who's a pastor also said "A thermometer isn't Republican  or Democratic." I really encourage you all to check this show out. It isn't Al Gore's baby, it isn't inherently political. It shows a very interesting perspective of what is going on in Syria as well. It's showing what is really going on out there in the world. I am a religious person and I have no doubt that climate change is real and that this is a people problem ...

House Hunters

Last week was a crazy week. I started out just worrying about homework. And I ended it with an apartment. That's right, Sammy and I have gotten our apartment! On Wednesday, Sammy's brother and his dad came on a tour of my campus. I was so excited to see him there since I'll never get to go to college with my siblings, so it was fun being the awesome big sister who knows everything. I found them and said hey! And took a picture of course because I was so excited.  That's when Sammy's dad told me about the apartment. Sammy and I have been so busy we've been sort of putting off looking. His parents on the other hand have been looking, just trying to help out. Sammy's mom found an income restricted apartment with two openings, and they were going to go fast. Sammy's dad asked if Sammy and I could come look that day, but we had no time, (oh classes!) So, I pushed off all thoughts of the apartment. Until that night. When Sammy texted to tell me that hi...

Garden- Week 1

The plants are a week old today! Those little cuties. I'm amazed at how much growth has happened! The box said not to put the sprouts in full sunlight until they had all sprouted and had leaves. I have no idea if those little buds at the top count, but everything hasn't sprouted yet so I'll give them a little more time. They're all leaning towards the window though where the sunlight comes through so maybe I'm hurting them. I'm a little worried because the carrots, zucchini, and peppers haven't sprouted yet, neither have the strawberries. In fact, the strawberries just look like a big pile of dirt. I'm being patient though, hopefully I haven't killed them all yet.

My trip into the forbidden Men's Warehouse

Last Saturday, I was with Sammy's family picking a cake and afterward, they informed me that they needed to stop by Men's Warehouse. I was SO excited, not the reaction they were expecting. I don't know why, but I love looking at men's clothes! There were so many cool socks, and ties, and bow ties, and shirts. I would have so much fun mixing and matching if I were a man. Plus, it reminded me of days driving to the temple and passing Men's Warehouse and all the boys in the car saying that woman were not allowed to know the secrets of the Men's Warehouse. Well boys, I have now been inside and know ALL your secrets. I was at Men's Warehouse with Sammy and his dad helping Sammy look for a suit. I made it my mission to find suits under $300 that included pants that were slim fit and not black. I found three suits and yelled, "I Win!" every time I found one. When Sammy went to try on the suits, I sat outside the door singing I win I win I found the su...

Fiasco

I have a confession. I have to cry at least once a month, or I lose it. I go crazy. I can't handle the world. Everything gets so bottled up inside, and I just cry. This may or may not always happen during PMS week… It happens at the weirdest places. And honestly, it makes me giggle. I think it's funny. Because every month without fail I forget that I need to do this until the moment where I just lose it. When I do lose it, it's a fiasco. My face turns alllll red and my makeup just disappears. It doesn't run or anything, it's just gone. My eyes puff up and my face gets so irrated that the littlest touch hurts. Then there's the runny nose all over the place and then the lost mascara and snot somehow in my hair. I try my hardest not to lose it at church because, I am not cute when I cry. Why am I writing about this? Because, I think it's kind of funny and makes me giggle. I've been so afraid of crying all my life and now, I just do it everywhere at th...

Her favorite color is orange & Arbys

Misty's favorite color is orange. We got her a set of balls, all different colors. She'll only play with the orange one. I was taking some yarn upstairs and my mom threw it all on the ground. There were five different colors, and she immediately went for the orange one. Such a cutie! That face almost makes you forget her vicious growling. She's working on it. I also found this on my phone. My almost bro in law is a dork. And works at Arbys and smells like fries. He's bringing this friend girl to the wedding, and I was telling him how I've never met her and I want to meet her and he informed me that I have indeed met her. Apparently back in high school she was sitting at a table with Michael and Sammy and Michael was introducing her to Sammy and I popped out of nowhere and yelled, "He's mine!" and freaked everyone out. Whoopsie!  I need to meet her again and show her that I have matured quite well in the past two years. Haha! ...

Classes for next Fall

I've already registered for my classes for next fall. It's so weird to pick classes so far out! I have no idea what my life will be like then! But, I'm going to be taking English Literature 1, Flash Fiction, Shakespeare, and Nuclear Technology. Pretty awesome mix right?! I'm excited yet nervous. I'm taking a whole class on flash fiction which is stories around 750 words or less. My post on Monday was an attempt at flash fiction. This class usually takes a topic and you learn everything about it in a semester. Its a required class and the topic changes every semester. My freshman year, they had one on science fiction that I wanted to take soooo bad. I wanted to wait it out, but, who knows if they'll offer that class again. So, I'll just get it done and hopefully develop a love of flash fiction. I'm excited for English Lit, it's mostly women writers. So I'll be reading some Jane Austen and Mary Shelley yes! Shakespeare is pretty explanatory. ...

April Fools, Free Books, Hipster Hamsters

Last Tueday/ April fools was a great day. I didn't get any pranks played on me. I spent the night before planning out pranks to do myself, but on Tueday morning I had no energy so I didn't end up doing anything. Well actually, I printed out pictures of Nicholas Cage and taped them randomly around the store. And made all the computer screen savers Nicholas Cage. But I was informed that's not a very good prank. Sigh. But anyways! On Tuesday I found I'd be getting more hours at work which is such a huge blessing! It still isn't where I'd like to be but more hours are more hours! I found out I won a GoodReads contest. And it was actually a book that I want to read. Genetics + Dystopia + Romance. My kind of book! I'm waiting for this baby to make it's way to me in the mail. I never win contests so this was so exciting! I saw my favorite professor of all time in passing and we caught up. He suggested another book I should read, and gave me tips on my...

Little Bit o Writing

Cold. All he felt was cold. Not the warmth he’d felt as a child when his father pretended not to see him still awake, crouched in the shadows of his doorframe. Watching as his deft hands slipped the old dirtied rag that hadn’t seen water since the early 70’s up and through the machine. His father didn’t believe in bleach, claiming the mixture of oil, grease, and that thick spit that formed in the corners of your mouth while thinking of water when none was to be had was the best way to clean a gun. The forever fingerprints that tarnished the gold plating on the side contradicted that saying, but he was his father. Of course it was right. Nor the warmth the first time his father clapped him on the back, hard, blood rushing to the ghost of a handprint, stinging, but a good kind of stinging. The stinging of a man’s approval. The two of them had gone to the range for the first time and he’d watched in reverence as his father spread his legs shoulder width apart, aimed, and fired. H...

Gardening!

On Friday, my sister, mom and I headed out to get supplies for a garden. Two actually, one for them and one I can take to my apartment as soon as I move in. I've been wanting to garden for so long so it was fun to finally go out and get the supplies. My sister was awesome and did a lot of research on what varieties of plants grow best where we live and how to start the seeds. We bought one batch of seeds and a little seed started kit, but one of the strawberry seeds didn't have the seeds in it! Strawberries are what I want to grow most so this was not alright. So, Brinley headed out with Tanner to get more seeds. They came back two hours later after going to three different Walmarts and a home depot. I put all the seeds in their little seed pods, my fingernails still have dirt underneath them. We're growing carrots, tomatoes, peas, zuchinni, cucumbers, peppers, beans, lettuce, spinach, cilantro, parsley, basil, strawberries, and a few flowers. The little seeds ...

You can just take the bacon off if you don't like it :)

One fun thing about wedding planning has been all the food! And getting to taste food. So far we've been to two cake tastings, and one more tonight. But the best part was trying food for the family dinner. It's been hard trying to mesh our two families completely different expectations for what a reception should be like and we've been really stressed out about food. But, a guy in our ward who lives down the street grew up catering professional BBQ for people. So, I finally gave in and let my dad call him. I'd been a little iffy about BBQ because it's not my favorite food in the world. But Wednesday, we went over to taste some food. Oh. My. Lanta. So so good. We had bacon wrapped chicken, chicken thighs, pulled pork, and french fries. I was like, who would wrap chicken in bacon? It's probably too much meat. But it wasn't. It was the tastiest thing I ever had in the world. I drove straight to Sammy's to get him a sample as well and he fell in love....

Friends

Friends :) I've had the pleasure of having so many friends over the years. School, church, work, I'm so grateful for all the lessons my friends have taught me. But, at this moment, there are some really special ladies who have really stuck with me. So naturally, they're all my bridesmaids or honorary bridesmaids. I went through my pictures to find the most recent pictures I had with all of these ladies, and it was quite sad how long it's been since I've gotten a picture with them. I guess we're just having too much fun to pull out a camera. This makes me even more excited for June 7th, we can all get pictures together again :) (in the order blogger decided to upload pictures) Miss Joice :) My roommate, and personal makeup artist. We get so girly together and would stay up late at night telling stories. Even though we no longer live together, whenever we talk we pick things right back up and I know we always will be able to. Living together for a year ...

My new favorite food

I've been eating this all week. It's SO good! And it's so easy. It's just a mixture of black beans, rice, sour cream, and lettuce! I've also done it with hamburger helper as well. I thought that I was a genius coming up with this on my own. Turns out it's just a naked burrito, and they have them at chipotle and qudoba. Oh well! So yummy!

The Rest of Spring Break

Wednesday- After shooting guns and getting my face burned, we went out for some Red Robins and visited 2nd and Charles, a secondhand bookstore. I don't really like that store as much because, they don't have any of the books I want to read, and the first time I went there, they gave me $37 in store credit. The second time I came back with even more books, and they gave me $3.55 in cash. I wasn't thinking and just took the cash. I should have taken my books back with me and taken them to Tattered Cover and gotten a book I actually wanted. At night I went over to Sammy's! He made me a delicious grilled cheese for dinner and even let me eat it on their super cool reclining couch because his parents weren't home. It was pretty great! He went to the doctor earlier in the day and the doctor said that his crazy cracking all over is completely normal which was such a relief for me! Then, we had us time together. He played video games while I read my book. That's one o...

Spring Break- Tuesday

Tuesday I went with my parents to get food storage! It was fun and felt good. I worked for the money to pay for my own food. And not just any food but food in cans that can last thirty years. It was the best. Our food  I was very excited about the beans.  Later, my brother wanted me to help him make crescents from a can. I have no idea how to make crescents. After the crescents, Sammy and I went to Shane Co. to check out wedding rings. Ouch said my wallet. And then, I had the dinner of champions. Sammy whipped me up some pancakes. Pancakes are those food that I just cannot make. My goodness! So the fact that he is a pancake wizard makes me very very happy. We had taquitos as well. It was a great day.
