Crazy Socks & Writer's Block

These were the last three books that I fit in this summer! This series was a great way to go out before I get to reading school books, blah! The Grisha trilogy! I am not a huge fantasy fan. A big part of fantasy is description, something that I just cannot stand in excess. So I was pleasantly surprised when I started Shadow and Bone and was drawn in. Yes, there is lots of description. But the idea was so cool I just kept reading through it. The basis is, there's this girl Alina who finds out that she has the power to summon sunlight and goes from being a no one to a someone in a matter of minutes. Woo, rags to riches story right? Well, sort of. The characters and the concept really drew me in. This isn't just magic, it's science based. There are so many cool characters as well. The Darkling is worth reading the first book. The second book adds characters that are even more compelling. And the third book?! I read so many bad reviews about it, but I really enjoyed it. ...

Bachelorette meets Hunger Games. That's all I have to say and you're in, right? Actually, as Sammy pointed out after I talked and talked and talked about the plot to him, it's more Bachelorette meets Divergent. Well, actually, it's Bachelor meets Divergent because it's technically only one guy. What book am I talking about? The Selection by Kiera Cass. Actually, I'm recommending the entire series because, it's that good! I'm so upset that the third book isn't out yet, but it will be soon. And those covers! They make me want to go dress up. The first book I'm reviewing is Partials by Dan Wells. This is the book that was so similar to the novel I'd been working on for awhile that I decided to scrap it for now and move on. But, Dan Wells' version is sooooo much better. I couldn't put this book down and even brought it to church with me to read during the car rides to and from. Those extra twenty minutes of reading really made the difference. So? What's so awesome?  The book starts right off with the very detailed description of a babies death that doesn't even have a name because no babies have survived in the last decade. None.
