These were the last three books that I fit in this summer! This series was a great way to go out before I get to reading school books, blah!
The Grisha trilogy! I am not a huge fantasy fan. A big part of fantasy is description, something that I just cannot stand in excess. So I was pleasantly surprised when I started Shadow and Bone and was drawn in. Yes, there is lots of description. But the idea was so cool I just kept reading through it. The basis is, there's this girl Alina who finds out that she has the power to summon sunlight and goes from being a no one to a someone in a matter of minutes.
Woo, rags to riches story right? Well, sort of. The characters and the concept really drew me in. This isn't just magic, it's science based. There are so many cool characters as well. The Darkling is worth reading the first book. The second book adds characters that are even more compelling. And the third book?! I read so many bad reviews about it, but I really enjoyed it. I disagreed with all the reviews that the characters were flattened and everything was so cliche. I loved it! So much so that I'm giving it such a lame review.
And those covers? Absolutely gorgeous! I really recommend this series, I was really satisfied. And I may or may not have imagined I was in it at work when things got stressful and decided who would be what character and such. I'm a dork :)
