Crazy Socks & Writer's Block

I am writing this post before the election. I have no idea how it turns out, and this is not a political post.  On Halloween, we were told spur of the moment that Chelsea Clinton was coming. The next day. And that she was having a rally outside on our lawn. And that Secret Service was coming to take over the building and would have things blocked off.  First off, we couldn't figure out why out of all the parts of Colorado she was coming to see us. We have an armed guard in the library for goodness sakes! Second off, we were shocked that we were only hearing about it the day before.  When I came into work Tuesday morning, I found this sign outside my staff bathroom. So naturally I took a selfie. I set the precedent and everyone else took selfies too by this same sign.  Chelsea Clinton used the same bathroom I use everyday my friends! Pretty crazy. I went to yet another author book signing a few weeks ago, this one for Kiersten White. She was coming to town with four other authors, and it was amazing. I've been waiting for her to go on tour since her book And I Darken  came out this summer. I was stoked when I found out she was coming to Denver.  I've read four of Kiersten's books, but her newest one is my favorite. This book signing was different however because I talk to Kiersten quite frequently on Twitter. If we had to assign twitter besties, I'd definitely choose her. She always makes me laugh, and always answers my tweets. I've asked her about having a W last name affecting book sales, I've asked her for advice about wrist pain, and I told her about how I talk about weed when I'm nervous and meeting authors even though I've never touched it. Kiersten is also LDS so I've asked her about how she balances her faith with her stories, specifically when it comes to sexy time for characters...

On the actual day of Halloween, I did a couples costume with my co-worker. The idea came from listening to Hamilton over and over. One of my favorite parts features George Washington and then boom. There it was. I could be George Washington for Monday! I texted my friends, and my other co-worker said she would be Abraham Lincoln. And that's how this happened.  This wasn't my first time dressing as General Washington. I played him in fifth grade too.  I was honestly shocked at how well I looked as George Washington. I put the flour in my hair and turned it grey, pulled it back, borrowed Sammy's shirt and jacked, and there it was. I was so proud of it. However, all day at work next to Baberaham up there, and most people couldn't figure out who I was. One of our regulars who can't shut his mouth for five seconds didn't even say anything to me. Sammy's birthday was a week ago and I wanted to make it really special. I've been stoked about his birthday since early September when I decided that I wanted to surprise him with something he'd love. I searched and searched and searched, and finally found something that was happening on his birthday, that combined all of his favorite things: a ghost tour of the capital given by a philosophizing historian. Sammy watches ghost shows all the time, and everywhere we go he looks to see if there are ghost tours around. He also dreams of working in the capital one day, so I knew this would be perfect. The hardest part was not telling him for two months. I didn't even tell his family what my plans were because they are the worst secret keepers ever.  The night before Sammy's birthday I went and got him six balloons, since this is the sixth birthday I've known him. The Fort Collins temple dedication was a few weeks ago, and it was an amazing experience. I'd really been looking forward to it from the first moment Sammy and I walked inside when we were being ushers. I couldn't wait for the dedication so that we could go there and spend time inside whenever we wanted.  The day of the actual dedication though, my anxiety was bad.  I was coming off one of the worst weeks I'd had at work, and had to work six days in a row. All of that stress and fear and just blaaah had built up. I ' d tried my best to relax the night before, because I was really looking forward to the dedication. However a half hour before we were about to leave, this awful pain just came over me. It wasn't like anything I'd felt before, and I knew that it was from all my stress and such, but it wasn't going away any time soon. Added to that was the stress of what if I get sick in the middle of it, what if I pass out, what if what if what if. I honestl...

Everyone at work drinks coffee or tea. So they're always brewing something and have drinks at the desk. Sometimes I feel left out because I want a warm drink. I fixed that by bringing my own Apple Cider to work. I had to get them to teach me how to use the tea kettle to boil water, then make my cider. I was giddy and giggling while I did it because I was so excited. Everyone thought I was hilarious.  Then to my delight I found a little stir straw and used that to mix everything. Then, I used the straw to drink. It reminded me of going to girl's camp and campfire songs.  The cutest boy, I ever saw. Was sipping ciiiiiider, through a straw. The cutest boy I ever saaaaaaw was sipping ci yi yi yi yider through a straw.  I asked him if, he'd show me how, to sip that ciiiider through a straw. Just in case you weren't aware, Halloween isn't just one day. It's a month long, and all month I've been trying to work Halloween into everything. First off I decorated the apartment in bats and skulls and frogs.  Sammy and I had to compromise on some of our decorations. I like cute scary, he likes bloody scary. That ghoul found itself in the shopping cart without my seeing. Then I've tried to sneak Halloween into all of my outfits. Lots of orange and purples. I used a skeleton necklace to hold my ID badge. Bats leggings that are hard to see Bat socks  And this isn't Halloweeny, but this was another cute outfit.  We also went to a corn maze with some friends. It wasn't as fun as it used to be as a teen. The boys turned it into a video game and wanted to hit all of the stations and were actually reading the map so we were never lost. Plus, with four of us it was hard to compromise on where to go.
