Nearing the End. . .

It's Sunday. . . You know what that means? Spring Break is almost over. It's a very very sad day right now. :( Man. But I had a fantastic week and wouldn't have spent it any other way! I got to spend tons of time with the family and the bestby and just having fun! I finished a story which I'm really proud of! Well, kind of finished. It's my first draft and if it were to be in an actual book it'd only be 100 pages. But never fear, it tis only my first draft! I want to get published so so bad. I feel like sometimes maybe I haven't been hired for a job yet is so I'll have time to finish one of these stories and get it published! I hope I still have time when I go back to school tomorrow. Physics homework gets in the way of that.

Did I write about how my physics teacher came and had a little chat with me about how I need to get over my senioritis and buckle in for the last two months? I can't remember. Well he did. And I don't want to. But I'll try I guess. Yes, I said try. It's still Spring break I'm allowed to be unmotivated.

So I went on an awesome trip to Boulder this week! I'd never been there before and I had a lot of fun! Yes, there were hippies!
I tried the chocolate factory for the first time! The bestby loves chocolate, he's holding it to his heart, ahhhh!
There was the shirtless guy playing guitar on top of a cello. If the orchestra teacher at school saw him doing that he'd probably be preeetttyyy mad.

There was a store filled with Toms! Look, baby toms! When I have kids I'm definitely getting them some sparkly baby toms. If they haven't destroyed my bank account by then that is.

They make flip flops in his size! *Note, this is not the bestby.*

The bestby situated my hat for me. Apparently that's how the cool kids wear their hats.

There was this gypsy shop and it was sooo cool. Even though I'm not Hindu, it was really neat hearing the lady there tell us about all the different things in the shop. She had a Ganesh statue in the corner with money all over it, apparently some people just come in to give money to the statue then leave.
She also had all these bangles! I remember when I was little I saw this thing on Disney Channel with this girl showing off her bangle collection and I was always like, I want some those are so cool! Well there were a ton so I got some, they were only twenty five cents a piece!
The downside was, since they were only 25 cents, they turned my arm weird colors. Oh well I guess!

My favorite store there, besides the ginourmous bookstore that I didn't take pictures of because I was so awed and in heaven, was the vintage store! Even though it smelled weird. If that's what the 80's smelled like, I'm glad I didn't live through them. Haha. This shirt made me think of my dad, I was the only one in the group who got it.

He would've looked good in the 80's

When we were about to leave, I saw this REALLY poofy red tutu in the back of the store so I ran over to look at it. After laughing at it, I walked away, but then a little sparkle caught my eye. It was that. Right there. A Fanny Pack! All of my childhood memories involve my dad wearing his trusty fanny pack. The nostalgia just ran over me and I felt like singing OHHHHHHH!!!!! But this wasn't just any fanny pack, it was a shiny one! So of course I bought it. I skipped all the way to the cash register dude and was like, I would like to purchase this here fanny pack. That's exactly how I said it. And in his AWESOME British accent he was like, alright that'll be bla bla bla dollars. His accent totally made buying a fanny pack that much cooler. I'm thinking about wearing it to prom. But I might chicken out. Haha.

Speaking of prom, I'm really excited! My dress is so cool, it has lace and lime green and was on sale and just, yeah. And I'm going to wear heels since I wore Vans last year. The one thing I'm not excited about is the whole getting there thing. I'm kind of stressed because all of my few friends are in completely different groups and I don't want to go in a huge group and I don't want to pay for a limo or a four course meal, I'd be fine with Taco Bell frankly, and just ahhh! The only reason I am sharing these woes on here is so that I can laugh at them in years to come. :)

Anyways. So remember that chocolate covered smores back at the top? Yeah, so it was lunch time and it was hot and I had a crap ton of sugar in my system. I wasn't feeling too hot. There was this other chocolate shop we went into so the bestby's cousin could get some chocolate covered bacon. All the sugar smells were getting to me and one second I looked somewhere and the next second I looked at the same spot I swear I saw a mermaid. It was just a little girl in a pink shirt but I saw a mermaid. I flipped out and the bestby asked me what was wrong and I told him I just saw a mermaid and he was like, do you have any water? And I said yeah you want some? And he said no, you drink it. Now.

After the mermaid episode we went and got some real food. Which translates to we went to a hot dog stand! YEAAHH!

This was my favorite street performer. He was pretty cool. We had to leave before he finished his act so I didn't get to see him stuff himself in a box.

We were sitting outside this government building and I was staring out the window making binocular eyes and everyone was freaking out saying I was going to get us in trouble or something. Amateurs. I saw this bus though, I want to ride it! Fun day :)

On a totally different note, I saw the Hunger Games this week too. I was putting it off because they're such amazing books and I didn't want to get in a Hunger Games phase again. Too late, I'm in one. It was a really good movie, they did a really good job! I still think Peeta's a panzee though.
We went on a double date and they were lateish so the bestby was like, I'll save their seats and he just laid down across three seats. I was laughing so hard. I know, this picture sucks.

After the movie the guys were in the parking lot playing the name that car game. I suck at that game, epicly. They bestby knew a whole lot of cars though, I was impressed. I like finding out new things about him all the time :) Like when I didn't know he wore a retainer until we'd been dating for a year.
We saw this car though! It was pink, and pretty cool. :)

Now its General Conference. It's been a really good one this year! The bestby's been watching em too and we discuss them after each talk. It makes me pay attention more. My favorite thing was when he said, Hey, when's Uchdorf talking, he's my favorite, he's got swag. Of course his talk came on the one time he wasn't watching.
Well, that's all for now folks. It twas a good spring break!

  1. On campus, right outside of the Tivoli during lunch time, there's a Gourmet Dog stand that you should check out. Their slogan is "Our meat is no mystery." Haha. It's pretty good-- I've only had the elk dog, but next on my list is the reindeer dog. :)

Racism, stereotypes, and plain ole judging

Being in a class dedicated to the idea of migration has really kept the idea of racism on the brain. In elementary school, the idea of racism was so defined to me, thinking people are better than others based solely on the color of their skin. It wasn't until middle school after reading many books that I realized racism wasn't jut as issue of black versus white, rather it applies to all cultures. In high school I was actually shocked to here racist statements from people I loved. All the sudden this issue became personal somewhat. (My favorite statement was from a little girl who said, it should be illegal for Mexicans to have babies. I guess I can't have kids then.)  But it wasn't until last week when we did an activity in my public health class that I realized that I myself was being racist as well. Now, this is something I am not proud of. I'm very embarrassed actually and that activity was humbling. Why am I writing about this? Because, it's som...

Toxic Masculinity

It seems like forever ago that they released that Gilette ad about toxic masculinity. I watched as people I'd grown up with freaked out about it, saying that it said that men need to be like women, and that it condemned masculinity altogether, along with other things. I crafted post after post to write on my social media, but in the end didn't bother writing anything. I didn't feel like arguing with people. But I had to share my thoughts somewhere, so here they are.  To me, toxic masculinity is exactly what it says-- ideals of masculinity that are toxic. It's telling your son that he needs to suck it up and not cry. That he can get away with more than girls because 'boys will be boys.' The idea that he can't read or watch certain media because it's "for girls." At the same time, girls are asked to watch things that are "for boys" all of the time. It's the idea that men need to repress their feelings. That they can't be sc...

Little Bit o Writing Monday

The beginning of my short story for class.  When Dora's son tugged on her pants leg, the last thing she expected was to see him holding a tooth. A tooth that clearly did not belong to him. She was no dentist, but she was smart enough to know the colossal thing couldn't have come from Mark's mouth. “Mark, where did you find that?” Dora scolded. “In the backyard.” “Show me where,” Dora commanded. Excited, Mark ran out to the backyard, Dora following on his heels. He led her over to the back of the yard, to the particular corner that couldn't be seen from the kitchen window. There, her other two children were gathered around a hole in the ground. Hole was an understatement though, they'd obviously been working on this, pit, for quite sometime. If there had been no tooth, Dora would have sat the kids down and explained how digging holes this deep was dangerous because of all the water, electric, and who knows what else lines were under the ...
