January Reads

These are my favorite posts to write. I love books, I love writing, and I love talking about both! Plus, it's so much fun to go back and see just how much I've accomplished. So, without further ado, here's what I read in January this year.

I started off reading Never Fade and In the Afterlight, the second and third books of The Darkest Minds series by Alexander Bracken. I could not put them down. This happened one night when I really needed to go to sleep, but just wanted to finish reading. If I didn't have a job, I would have stayed up. It's hard growing up sometimes.
I loved this series. It was dystopian without being dystopian. The world was completely recognizable. The people were recognizable. The problems were recognizable. The kids just had powers. Reading this series also got me back in contact with one of my oldest friends Kelsey because she recommended it years ago. I'm grateful that we're talking again, it was muchly needed. The third book was a bit frustrating to get through, but it was so worth the ending. I highly recommend this series! Plus, the author is pretty cool, she wrote her first book while in college and is totally down to earth.

Next I read The DUFF. I will be completely honest and say I only read it because I saw the trailer for the movie. When I saw the trailer, I watched it, oh, maybe five times in a row. I am so excited for this movie! Watch the trailer here and tell me what you think! They have obviously strayed COMPLETELY from the book for the movie however. The book is all about friends with benefits and pretty sexual. I'm perfectly ok with them changing the plot when it comes to this one. The book was ok and a fast read. I can't wait for the movie.

I read The Farm because my sister kept recommending it for me. It wasn't my favorite book in the world. It deals with a world filled with Ticks- a weird combination of zombies and vampires. And then there are real vampires introduced. The book makes fun of Twilight a lot which was humorous. I'm going to read the rest of the series, but it's definitely not one that will keep me up at night to finish.

I read Peter Pan for class and ended up really enjoying it! I thought I was going to hate it going in. The writing was wonderful and the story was fun. I'm definitely going to be reading it to my kids one day. The book honestly has more in common with the movie Hook than the Disney version which was a surprise. I had a presentation about the history of the book and adaptations for class and I learned a lot! J.M Barrie was a bit creepy in real life, befriending five boys and basing the story off them. When the boys parents died, he changed the will so that he ended up as their guardian. It only gets more depressing from there.

Fake

I feel like a lot of times when going through blogger, I'm always pushing the boundaries a bit. A lot of blogs seem to always be happy and awesome and they just won this free product from someone and it's great! Liebster-ing it up!

Funny story. A few days ago I was reading all the blogs I follow like I usually do. And of course I read  Jana's  blog and read about how she had won the Liebster award. I had no idea what it was, so I read her post full of fun facts, and for everyone I kept nodding my head going, I DO THAT TOO! Then today I re-read her blog, and realized that she'd nominated me for the Liebster award as well! It was a very exciting moment. Thank you! Christmas Lights

It’s funny having a baby and then trying to do things. I’ve noticed over the last year that I’ve gotten an I Can’t do that sort of attitude. We can’t do that because Aaron will cry and we’ll get cranky and so on. I’m really trying to work on that.  My anxiety out in public is much worse too. Now I have two people to protect not just myself. The library definitely changed how I look at places and I wish it hadn’t.  Sammy really wanted to go to a Christmas village downtown but I was too overwhelmed by all the logistics. So we compromised and went to one near us. It was so much fun! It was cold out but not too too bad. Aaron loves looking at the Christmas lights at our apartments, and he really loved these ones. It was so much more fun trying to look at these things through his eyes.  He was also fascinated by the mini Santa and Mrs. Clause at grandma’s house.  I’m so glad we went and can’t wait to go next year when he’s walking:)
