Storytime

I've been taking Aaron to story time at the library recently and it has been so fun! First off, it makes me super sad to see how much effort is put into these story times by my house versus the story times at the library I worked at. At our library they read a few books, might sing a song, and then would do a little craft. But, if the LA who usually did those wasn't there, there either wouldn't be a story time, or the staff would fight over who had to do it. Once I volunteered to do it and had no idea what I was doing. I picked a few books that I liked and that was it. The kids HATED it, and now going to actual story times I know why. The books I picked were way too long, and we didn't do any activities.
There were usually only two or three kids as well.

But at our library, they sing to all the kids, there are puppets, she teaches us how to help them with their balance, gives us diaper changing songs to try and make that a little more fun, we learn sign language, each story time has a theme like colors, bugs, shapes, etc. I've learned tips for trying to make reading more fun for Aaron, and he gets to play with scarves, shakers, and more.

The first time I went to story time I didn't go back for a few months because I was so overwhelmed. I felt like I was seriously slacking on not having taught Aaron any of these things before. Plus, there were so many songs I didn't know, and all the other moms seemed to know each other. I'm so glad I tried it again though. I've realized that that's why we go to story time, to learn new things. All of the mom's who knew each other already moved onto toddler story time and there's a new set in there. (Although I won't lie, I've had some weird interactions with some of them.) And Aaron loves it!

He sits and watches the librarian so intently. When the owl comes to sing hello to him, he doesn't even look at it because he's looking at the librarian. He's so cute and will turn around and look up at me and smile when he's really loving it. He smiles so big whenever the owl sings to the other kids.

He LOVES to people watch.
We went to the library on the weekend as a family and Aaron had a great time. While we looked for books he crawled through the stacks and banged on the bottom shelves. Then we took him into the children's area and he had a great time playing with this latch toy. We also took a picture with the alien.
Before he was crawling, he scooted himself into the middle of the mat so that he could get a better view of the librarian. I feel like he's going to really enjoy school when he's older.

One week they gave him a little paper with a song on it and it is one of his favorite toys. He held it all day for a few days after that, it was the cutest thing ever.

Now that he is crawling, he tries to steal other babies pacifiers, and he crawls right up to the librarian when she reads the book so that he can get a good view. It makes me a little sad because he absolutely refuses to read with me! He shuts the book the whole time or whines. But he loves when others read to him.
I'm glad that Aaron likes going to library and I hope that's something he continues to enjoy.

Fake

I feel like a lot of times when going through blogger, I'm always pushing the boundaries a bit. A lot of blogs seem to always be happy and awesome and they just won this free product from someone and it's great! And then, I'm over here in my little corner of the blogosphere wondering, hey, should I actually write about this? Is this something that you just pretend like it never happens? Am I the only one this happens to? My favorite moments are when I find someone cutting down those walls and sharing what life is actually like. That they have zits. That they don't have the perfect relationship and baby. That they've struggled with mental health. That they're secretly gross like me. (I took a quiz on buzz feed about how secretly gross are you, and I got pretty gross. In the guise of not being fake, I am sharing this fact with you all!) When I find those blog posts, I instantly feel a connection with that person and will automatically follow them on their life j...

Liebster-ing it up!

Funny story. A few days ago I was reading all the blogs I follow like I usually do. And of course I read  Jana's  blog and read about how she had won the Liebster award. I had no idea what it was, so I read her post full of fun facts, and for everyone I kept nodding my head going, I DO THAT TOO! Then today I re-read her blog, and realized that she'd nominated me for the Liebster award as well! It was a very exciting moment. Thank you! So I guess this is how it works, I think, I'm new to this whole thing. I totally just stole this off Jana's blog ;) "The Liebster Blog Award is given to bloggers by bloggers. It is a way to acknowledge each other and say 'you're doing a great job.' It is for blogs with 200 or less followers, so it's also a great way to spread the word about smaller blogs & get them more readers/ followers! When you receive the award, you post 11 random facts about yourself and answer 11 questions from the person who nominated y...

Christmas Lights

It’s funny having a baby and then trying to do things. I’ve noticed over the last year that I’ve gotten an I Can’t do that sort of attitude. We can’t do that because Aaron will cry and we’ll get cranky and so on. I’m really trying to work on that.  My anxiety out in public is much worse too. Now I have two people to protect not just myself. The library definitely changed how I look at places and I wish it hadn’t.  Sammy really wanted to go to a Christmas village downtown but I was too overwhelmed by all the logistics. So we compromised and went to one near us. It was so much fun! It was cold out but not too too bad. Aaron loves looking at the Christmas lights at our apartments, and he really loved these ones. It was so much more fun trying to look at these things through his eyes.  He was also fascinated by the mini Santa and Mrs. Clause at grandma’s house.  I’m so glad we went and can’t wait to go next year when he’s walking:)
