I've realized there's no way I'm going to reach my goal of 47 books by the end of the summer. So that goal is being pushed until the end of the year. If I could reach the halfway point, I'd be happy. Here's what I've finished recently!
This book was creepy, and sexy, and awesome! It's also very long, about 500 pages. I read the first book, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer two years ago so it took me a bit to get back into this one and remember everything that happened. Once I got into the groove, I couldn't put the book down. The plot is so complicated I'm not even going to attempt to sum it up. I sped through this book thinking the third book was already out but it doesn't come out until November. The book ends on a pretty crazy cliffhanger, so if you hate waiting, I'd wait to start this book until a bit closer to November.
This book is amazing! It's about the mortal daughter of immortal Egyptian gods. I learned a whole lot about Egyptian mythology and the premise was just so cool! And then BAM, we get some Greek mythology thrown in there as well. I love this author and highly recommend this stand alone book!
This is the reason my book total is .25. This is one of four stories that make up a whole book written in Four's perspective. I only read this one because it covers the events of Divergent from Tobias's point of view which was fun to read. The rest are before Tobias meets Tris and I'm just not ready to read them. Veronica Roth broke my heart, so I'm holding out in protest. I'll probably cave and read the other three though.
This series is one of my new favorites. I loved the characters, I loved the premise. It's about in the future, when people die, some of them wake up later. The longer one is dead though, the less human they are when they wake up. The first book is told from the point of view of Wren who has the longest death time so she's pretty powerful. She decides to train Callum who's time is 22 minutes, so he's practically still human. This had the whole element of training that I loved in Divergent but flipped the gender roles and a whole lot of other awesomeness. And also didn't break my heart. I finished these two books in two days, very good reads!
I wrote a rough draft of a story which I thought had the same premise as this book. The idea of people being able to be sucked into your dreams at night. When I read the back of this book, I was bummed that my idea was already out there. Then, I decided to just read it for myself.
Alright. This book, sucked. Really. Really. BAD. The writing style made no sense for the story being told. The characters actions are ridiculous. There's random flashbacks that take the story nowhere. Did I mention their actions are SUPER ridiculous. I kept reading hoping it would get better but it didn't. Lisa McMann also wrote the Crash series I mentioned in my last book post so I held out some hope. It was in vain. This story was nowhere near the one that I wrote, and it just couldn't hold my attention. There's two more books in the series but I won't be wasting my time with those. I was really surprised by this, rarely do I not like books but man! Do not pick this one up. If the idea intrigues you, you can read my version ;)
I want to get my hands on Four SO badly!
