Honeymoon- Day 1

I don't have our official wedding pictures back yet, so I'm going to go a bit backwards documenting wise! Sammy and I went up to Estes Park for our honeymoon. I've lived in CO most of my life and I've only been up there once and that was for outdoor ed in 6th grade. Where everyone proceeded to throw up coming down the mountain. So, I've always been a bit wary of Estes. But when I let go of the reigns and let Sammy plan our honeymoon, that's where we went! And it was the best trip of my life!

It's a bit up to Estes from our house though so the first night we stayed in a hotel in Broomfield called Aloft. It was SUPER nice. There was color everywhere and everything was very modern and cool and yeah! I forgot to bring a dress to change into after the wedding so we pulled up to the hotel in my dress. With a car that looked like this.

We had to pull over three times to take cans off the back, cans off the roof, and balloons off the antenna. Every time we thought we got it all, we'd start driving again and hear the same awful noise, knowing we hadn't got it all. I shouldn't say we, Sammy was the one who got out three times. I sat in the car not able to breathe. :) 

When we got into the hotel to check in, the guy at the desk was like, you're not 21? to Sammy. And he said nope. He turned to me and asked if I was as well. I said almost. He got a troubled look on his face, then said he wasn't supposed to check us in since we weren't 21 yet. My heart sank. I had visions of calling our parents to come check us into the hotel. So independent right?! Wrong! But then, he gave us a glance, asked if we were the couple who just got married, and told us that he was going to let us in anyway but we couldn't tell anyone what he'd done. He even made us extra room keys and coupons so that we wouldn't have to interact with the front desk again. I was so grateful! Thank you Mark :)

We headed up to our room which was so weird! It was our room. We weren't sharing it with anyone else. Sammy had paid for it. It had that great hotel smell and was so pretty! It was a pretty cool feeling! They had Divergent on demand on the tv and it was such a temptation to get it but we didn't!

The next morning we checked out and went in search of some McDonalds. The hotel food was way to expensive and honestly, I really, really wanted an egg Mcmuffin! I ate SO much at McDonalds. My three honeymoon requests were

1. getting to be with Sammy

2. Touring the Stanley hotel

3. Eating lots and lots of food.

All three of these requests were met. Since I couldn't choose between pancakes or an egg Mcmuffin, I got both! And ate Sammy's sausage burrito that he didn't like. It was glorious! 

After Mcdonalds we headed over to the apartment to pick up a few things. It was weird stopping by, knowing that we weren't just to visit anymore, this was where we were going to be living! I got my favorite blanket and a pillow and we were off to Estes! After stopping at King Soopers to get snacks. I was introduced to the wonder that is funyons on this trip! 

We finally headed up to Estes and I slept most of the car ride. I turned on Siri for Sammy and let her direct him to the mountains. We got there fairly quickly, and a road had just been opened that made for an even quicker trip. We passed through where all the flood damage was though and I could hear Sammy sucking in his breath every few seconds. It was horrible to see. But these people are moving on and rebuilding their lives.

We got to our cabin two hours before check in time and didn't know what to do. So we parked in a random parking lot and walked around town. It started to rain right as we passed by the towns historic movie theater. 

The inside!

The theater is over a hundred years old and on the national historic registry! There were only six of us seeing a movie, and there's only two screens inside! It was cold inside and only three people worked there. And greatest of all, it was only 2.00 for a drink and 3.00 for popcorn! We saw X-Men Days of Future Past. Sammy has been really excited for this movie but me, not so much. Well, man! It was such a great movie! I was hooked and it was all I could think about all day. We stayed past the credits to see the sneak peek to the new movie, which was pretty confusing! 

One of the workers gave us a history of the movie theater, how there's nothing inside the tower, that the Stanley brothers helped build it, but the man who did own and build the place left the top empty because his fiancé left him and she was "pretty on the inside but empty and hollow on the outside." They say that paranormal activity is pretty high in the theater because all the cowboys would ride down to see a movie and have a good time. All the ghosts there are happy though, which was nice to hear before sitting down to a movie. 

After the movie we checked into our cute little cabin. There were no problems there, there was just a set of keys left for us in a lock box so we didn't run into the 21 problem. 

We made ourselves dinner that night, some pasta and bread along with some salad. All day I was craving our wedding food that I didn't get to fully enjoy due to my dress getting too tight while eating. Sigh. We snacked on chips and dip, watched some of The Office and just enjoyed the woods. I did have a baby panic attack because all the stress from the weeks before finally hit me in the peace of the mountains. But after a good cry and quick talk with my mom, I was better and we enjoyed our night. It felt unreal being on vacation just the two of us, able to do whatever we wanted when we wanted to! 

My handsome husband researching what happened with the X-Men :) I kept staring at him with his ring. He looks so good with it on! And I couldn't stop saying husband all day. It felt unreal! I took a bath before bed, just because I could. I read a book in the tub, something I've never done before. That's something I definitely want to do more often! It was really relaxing. The bathroom had it's own heater too which was so nice! I miss that cabin!

The mountains are amazing. I slept so good up there, especially when I had my own blanket. The first day of our honeymoon rocked!
