Hi! I'm Bailey. Sorry to disappoint you since I'm not Kylee, but while she is away on her honeymoon, I'm filling in for her today. Kylee has been one of my favorite bloggers-turned-friends, and I'm so sad I didn't get to meet up with her while I was in Colorado last summer. Kylee has a goal of going on a blogger road trip to meet all of her Internet friends, so I decided to share with her 10 reasons why she should come to Owensboro.
10 Reasons Why Kylee Needs to Visit Owensboro, Kentucky
10. The local restaurants
The Big Dipper, Old Hickory, Colby's, Capone's, The Rolling Pin, The Miller House, Pizza by the Guy, BeeBop's. The list goes on and one. Kylee and I (and Sammy too, can't forget him!) would dine at these fine establishments and eat until we puke.
9. The barbeque
This deserves a category of its own. Moonlite is world-famous, but my heart is with Old Hickory. Burgoo and mutton are loved in Owensboro so much we even have a BBQ Festival every May. In the summer, the Catholic parishes host picnics and sell BBQ. In my opinion, it's better than Denver's own Casa Bonita.
8. The new downtown
The city has been trying to revitalize the downtown area with the new park and new convention center. Kylee and I (and Sammy, our third wheel!) would stroll around downtown.... since that's like the only thing to do around here.
7. 30 minutes from Holiday World
It's a family-owned amusement park in Santa Claus, Indiana. I went every year as a child and even worked there one summer. Dare I say it, but it rivals Disney World and Universal Studios, in my opinion. Kylee hasn't experienced life until she sits on Santa's lap in July.
6. The history
Both Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis were born in the Bluegrass State. Abraham Lincoln's boyhood home is located in nearby Lincoln City, IN. Bill Monroe was from nearby Ohio County. In McLean County, there was a Civil War skirmish known as the Battle of Sacremento (and to this day, they have reenactments of the battle.) I would take Kylee and Sammy on a tour of my great state and give them a history lesson.
5. The driving
Driving in Owensboro is super easy. We don't have any interstates around, which means you can practically sleep while driving. Kylee and Sammy deserve a break from Denver driving.
4. The "small-town" feel
Owensboro is a city of 50,000 residents, but it feels like a small town. I love that. I love that I went to the same high school as my mother and grandmother and many of my classmates were the children of my mother's classmates. It's a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Denver.
3. The shopping
Owensboro has 2 Walmarts, a Target, Hobby Lobby, Macy's, and Kohl's, among other stores. Unlike bigger cities, stuff in Owensboro is actually affordable! My cousin owns a consignment shop that caters to the wealthy folks in town, so I love shopping there too. Kylee and I would have a blast shopping.
2. It's a quick 2.5 hour trip to my alma mater.
It's no secret that I bleed navy blue and gold. One of my favorite things in the entire world is Murray State University. If time allows, I would have to show Kylee and Sammy around Murray.
1. My family lives here
I think one of Kylee's favorite parts about my blog is that I share so many stories about my mom, sisters, and Mamaw. What would be even better than reading about my family is actually meeting them! I want Kylee and Sammy to experience for themselves the ridiculous things my Mamaw says on a daily basis. (Gotta love her!)
Bailey
(Friends, I really want to visit now, especially with that beautiful picture! Love you Bailey so so much! I hope to meet you in the near future!)
