I've always wanted to do book reviews and help someone find a book that they never would have found otherwise and fall in love with. I also noticed that companies will send free samples of things to bloggers to get their opinion on them. These samples are usually reserved for those big bloggers with hundreds of followers. Today I am stating my case as to why the magical book people out in the world should send free books for me to read and review. (Preferably YA) ;)
1. People have read books I've recommended on my blog. My friend Bailey read and fell in love with Divergent and told me she tried it out because of my many, many posts on the subject. Then, Lauren mentioned seeing all of Bailey's tweets about Divergent and read it herself. I feel as though I indirectly helped her read the book, and anyone who reads it because of Lauren's post about it! Just last week my friend Bridget posted about reading Divergent and how she skipped all of my blog posts on the subject, but just went back and commented on them all.
Now, Divergent has been getting a lot of press because of the movie anyways and is a very popular book series. So, it's likely these people would have found the books on their own. But, I also recommended The Selection which I reviewed here to Bailey and she read them as well. This isn's as popular a series, so I feel like this was an accomplishment!
2. I keep it real. I'm not going to feel obligated to say a book is awesome if I really didn't like it. I'm not afraid to say that I skipped the middle and went to the end. At the same time though, through my English degree I'm being trained to find good aspects in ALL writing. So even if I didn't like a book, I will do my best to find and point out aspects that were well done that others may like!
3. I hope to be an author one day, and that gives immediate credit for books. I found the Hunger Games two weeks after it was first released because Stephanie Meyer wrote about it on her blog. My new favorite book at the moment I read because Meg Cabot reviewed it. Imagine all the books that I could review now and then would be given credit later! A lot my friends.
4. I want to read 47 books this summer. So far I'm at six. I need books to read!
5. I am loyal. I will always try to finish series and check up on the authors to see what else they are doing. I just bought the second book in the series The Rules because I loved the first book which I was given for free! I refuse to buy books from Amazon for many reasons, but now more than ever because of this crap. I also don't read big authors who profit on the work of others like James Patterson. Don't even get me started on him.
6. I prefer real physical books. I have an iPad and while it is nice to have my textbooks on it wherever I am, I've tried their online book library and I just can't do it. I need the physical book in my hand. So, sending me a free book makes it more likely that I will actually read it, and reasons 1-5 will happen!
So, magical book people who will probably never read this, send me free books. You'll be glad you did ;)
Also, to those of you who have recommended books to me, don't worry! I am doing my darndest to find them and give them a shot!

I get most of my books for reviews from BookLook Bloggers.
ReplyDeleteMy last blog years ago was a book reviewing blog, and if you get with some indie authors, they'll definitely be willing to hand out a copy, especially e-book copies. I know they're not a first choice, but a lot of authors will give out an e-book version first, but there are some who will mail a paperback copy. I would definitely be willing to do a book exchange and send you some books sitting around that I loved. Maybe a book swap?
